Hi! Technically, you can definitely use the silicone mold. However, keep in mind that silicone is a poor heat conductor. This means your brownies will have a very uniform texture but won’t develop those classic crispy edges. It will also take a bit longer to bake because the silicone itself takes more time to heat up compared to metal.
If you decide to stick with your metal pan even though it’s smaller, I recommend recalculating the ingredients. You can easily do this using the built-in calculator on the recipe page – just click on the pan size above the ingredient list and enter your pan’s dimensions. This way, you’ll get the perfect thickness without any guesswork! -
Hi Mindy!
Yes, you can definitely make a pumpkin version of these whoopie pies without any issues.
Butternut squash is actually perfect for this because, when raw and grated, its moisture level is very similar to raw carrots. This means you won’t need to adjust any other ingredients – just swap the carrots for the squash in a 1:1 ratio. -
Thanks! I hope the flavor impresses you just as much! You can add some zest if you want to boost the citrus aroma, but it’s completely optional.

Oh, I’m so happy to hear you loved the recipe! I actually use these buns for my burgers all the time, too. The crispy onions definitely take them to the next level. For the quantities in this recipe, about 30g (roughly 1 oz) should be just right.

Hey Jackie!
I’m afraid tomato paste isn’t really a good swap here. It’s a stand-alone product with a completely different flavor and properties. Ketchup has sugar, salt, and spices added in, while tomato paste is a single-ingredient item – basically just heavily reduced tomato purée. -
Yes, you can substitute sugar with honey. Use a honey with a medium flavor profile, such as wildflower, linden or clover honey.
When substituting, keep in mind that honey is about 20-30% sweeter than white sugar, so you should use less of it. Instead of 2 tbsp of sugar, use 1.5 tbsp of honey.
I hope you enjoy this stir-fry! -
Hi Mandy!
Yes, you can absolutely substitute the peanut butter for the Nutella using a 1:1 ratio. Just keep in mind that it will definitely turn into a completely different dessert. -
Great question! The answer depends on the result you want.
Block-style cream cheese will give you a firmer filling. However, it’s not essential for this recipe.
Tub-style cream cheese works fine, just make sure it’s medium-firm and not too spreadable. In this case, the filling will be more tender and delicate. -
Hi Molly! I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe.
Reducing the sugar to 150g for a double batch is a very significant cut. And that is exactly why they didn’t spread out and why the dough needed less flour! Sugar is key for spreading – it adds crucial moisture and helps prevent the gluten from setting up too fast, both of which were dramatically reduced.

Hi Martha!
Yes, you can absolutely bake it in loaf pan. The batter should be perfect for a standard loaf pan about 30×10 cm, or roughly 12×4 inches.
And absolutely, chocolate chips are a great addition – you may use bittersweet or semi-sweet.
