Ingredient Notes:
- Green beans. For this recipe, I recommend using either the classic green variety or yellow wax beans, which should be thin. If using fresh beans, ensure they are young and juicy. If using frozen beans, thaw them before use. For the best visual appeal, use whole pods.
- Soy sauce. Use dark soy sauce for this dish because it has the right balance of flavor and color. Regular soy sauce will result in a lighter flavor and color of the beans.
- Garlic. Fresh garlic will give this dish a richer, more vibrant flavor. Dried garlic provides a milder taste. If using dried garlic powder as a substitute, use about ⅔ teaspoon.
- Sesame oil. This recipe requires toasted sesame oil because of its distinct, bright, and characteristic aroma, which complements the dish perfectly. Cold-pressed sesame oil is not a suitable substitute.
Let’s start cooking.
Defrost the beans, then mix them with the chopped garlic and the other ingredients.
Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
Bake in a preheated oven at 210°C (410°F) for 15-18 minutes, stirring a couple of times during the process.
Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, if desired. Serve.
Enjoy your meal!
