- Sour Cream: This sauce truly shines with sour cream around 20% fat, but anything in the 15-25% range will work well. As an alternative, you can use thick Greek yogurt, though this will result in a more pronounced sour taste in the final sauce.
- Mayonnaise: Feel free to use any mayonnaise you enjoy the taste of, including homemade.
- Mustard: For the best flavor, I recommend a sweet, grainy French mustard. Another excellent option is Bavarian mustard, which has partially ground grains and will give the sauce a slightly tangy kick.
- Garlic: Always use fresh garlic for this recipe. Dried garlic will give the sauce an undesirable flavor.
